The opening night was a fantastic success, with a wonderful turnout. It was a privilege to welcome so many different faces—from friends, supporters and fellow creatives to those discovering my work for the first time. I want to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who took the time to attend, engage, and celebrate this milestone with me.

The Journey: Two Centuries in the Making

The setting for this exhibition feels deeply significant. In 1826, exactly two hundred years ago, the first stone of the main building of Elizabeth College was laid, marking the beginning of an architectural legacy that has defined so much of our island’s history

In 2026, we gathered within these same grounds at the GateHouse Gallery to celebrate that milestone through a modern lens. My own story with Guernsey began unexpectedly three years ago. Arriving from an international background in the creative and built environment, I found myself captivated by the island’s unique dialogue between the man-made and the natural. What began as a transition became a deep-seated, lifelong inspiration.

The Inspiration: A Trio Lens

As an urban planner, architect, and artist, I perceive the world through what I call a “trio lens”: a synthesis of aerial perspective, structural precision, and artistic spirit.

This exhibition is the culmination of three years of “quiet interpretation,” exploring the tension and harmony found across the Bailiwick:

• The Man-made: How human intervention and craftsmanship—using Guernsey’s ancient stone and vernacular materials—have shaped our historic fortifications, communities, homes, and streets.

• The Natural: The sea, sand, sky, wind, and greenery that weave through the man-made landscape, creating a shifting energy that evolves with every passing hour and every changing season.

By translating these elements into art—using pen and ink to illustrate the tension of our changeable coastal weather, and oil or watercolour to paint the harmony of a sun-drenched day—I seek to reveal the diverse stories happening atop this “Magical Granite Rock”: a story centuries in the making.
