MAKING MATTERS – GRADUATE STORIES exhibition poster

Reflecting on the value of physical modeling: Exhibiting at the MSA 2026 Degree Show

In 2020, like many others, my graduation experience was forced entirely online due to the pandemic. While the digital format was a necessary pivot, I’ve always felt that something is lost when architectural work cannot be held, touched, or viewed in person.

That is why I am incredibly thrilled to share that a design model I first created in 2019 has been brought to life at the Manchester School of Architecture 2026 Degree Show.

Returning to the Physical

Featured as part of the “MAKING MATTERS – GRADUATE STORIES” exhibition, my work is currently on display alongside 15 other talented MSA alumni. It is a wonderful feeling to have this physical piece of work finally showcased in a real-world setting, bridging the gap between my design intent and my audience.

For me, physical models and sketches are not just end-products; they are my favorite methods for examining and presenting early-stage design concepts. They act as essential tools that foster an interactive, tangible experience with my clients, colleagues, and collaborators.

The Project: Champness Hall

The featured model explores an Adaptive Reuse project—a transformation of a Methodist church with historic Art Deco elements into a vibrant, multi-functional space for Retail, Leisure, and Culture. A Special Thank You

I want to extend a huge thank you to Scott Miller from B.15 for his support in making this display a reality. Beyond the invitation, he handled the complex logistics of shipping the model all the way from Guernsey to Manchester, ensuring it arrived safely for the show.

If you happen to be in Manchester, the exhibition is open to the public from June 6th to June 19th at the Manchester Technology Centre.
